Information About Non-Reservable Picnic Shelters

The CVRD has a number of parks with picnic shelters that are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Although these picnic shelters do not require a reservation or fee, the CVRD requests that individuals still notify us of their event, if it falls into any of the following categories:

  • birthday parties;
  • organized events;
  • wedding ceremonies; or
  • gatherings of over 10 people.

It is important to note that notification of an event does not provide exclusive use of the park or its facilities.  However, by notifying the CVRD, it allows us to advise of any closures, maintenance or other scheduled events at the park.

If your event is: open to the public, greater than 40 people, requires any set-up (tents, tables, chairs, etc.) or is hosted by a club, organization or business, please visit the Special Events & Special Use Permits page of our website for details on how to host a special event in a park. 

How to Submit a Notification For First-Come, First-Served Use

Submit your application online or download a pdf Group Use Notification Form and submit by email, mail or in-person at 175 Ingram Street, Duncan, V9L 1N8.

Once a Group Use Notification Form is received, CVRD staff will: 

  • review your notification to ensure there are no conflicts with other groups, events or maintenance work; and
  • contact you by email to acknowledge receipt of your group use notification, or advise of any conflicts.
