Home Government & Administration Legislative Services Elections & Referenda
Every four years in British Columbia the General Local Elections are held. The 2026 General Local Election will be held on October 17, 2026, with Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) advance voting opportunities October 7, and October 13, 2026.
Within the CVRD, there are nine electoral areas (A-I) and voters in each area elect one Electoral Area Director to represent them. Residents who live in or own property within an electoral area are eligible to participate in the general local election to choose their Electoral Area Director.
Member Municipalities in the region (City of Duncan, District of North Cowichan, Town of Ladysmith, and Town of Lake Cowichan) elect their own municipal councils.
Voters within the CVRD will also see candidate names for School District Board Trustees during a general local election on their ballot.
The Regional District elections for the Cowichan Valley are administered by the CVRD’s Legislative Services Division. For election related inquiries, please contact election@cvrd.bc.ca or call 250‑746‑2500 during regular business hours.
