Community Heritage Register Nomination Process

The CVRD welcomes nominations which identify community’s historic places, which are the physical manifestation of the aesthetic, historic, scientific, cultural, social or spiritual heritage values which form the heritage character of the community. Nominations will be considered by the CVRD Board for inclusion on the Community Heritage Register on the basis of their heritage value. A Statement of Significance (SoS):

  • summarizes the description, heritage value and character-defining elements of each historic place
  • reflects modern values concerning history and historic places
  • identifies what part of history a historic place represents, and how and why that is of value and importance today.

The heritage values identified within a Statement of Significance extend beyond the physical aspects of the historic place.

Community Heritage Register Nomination Process

To nominate a site for heritage status, fill out the CVRD Community Heritage Register Nomination Form  and submit to Cowichan Valley Regional District, Land Use Services Department, 175 Ingram Street, Duncan, BC V9L 1N8 or via email: ds@cvrd.bc.ca

Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands of this region since time immemorial. The CVRD is committed to the ongoing journey of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in the region by strengthening cooperation, collaboration, and relationship building.
