The Cowichan Lake Sports Arena offers both ice and roller skating. Depending on the season many different programs are offered on our arena ice surface and arena dry floor. These programs include Drop-in Hockey, Learn to Skate, Hockey Schools, Floorball, Sports Sampler and more!

Private Skate & Shinny Hockey Party
Celebrate your birthday at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena. Rent the ice or dry floor for one hour and one hour of cake/presents time in the curling lounge or a meeting room. Play hockey with our orange pucks, use the ice for a skate, or do both at the same time. Bring up to 49 skaters, with skate rentals included. Clean-up and supervision of children is your responsibility.
Public Skating Party Package
Celebrate your birthday on the ice during our Sunday public skate. This package includes skate admission and skate rentals. One hour use of the curling lounge or a meeting room will be provided. You set up, decorate, and clean up. Supervision of children is your responsibility.
Everyone is welcome! Shinny hockey with a foam puck is offered. Players must bring their own helmet and gloves however sticks are provided if needed. Youth under 16 must wear a CSA approved helmet with a cage for shinny hockey. Helmets recommended for all participants but not supplied. No sessions during hockey tournaments Jan 4, 25, Feb 22.e

This skate is a great opportunity to introduce your toddler to ice skating. Parents must participate on the ice and will have access to toys and games. An instructor can also be requested to provide tips, and informal instruction to parents. Helmets are strongly recommended but not supplied.
Have you been looking for a way to get some exercise, or to hone your skating skills without sharing the ice with faster, younger skaters? Here’s your chance – this skate is offered to those
55 years and older. Come practice your skating skills and meet new friends. Helmets are recommended but not supplied.
This session is for ages 6 and up. It is an opportunity for those new to the game or who want to practice their hockey skills. Children must be accompanied by an adult, at discretion of supervisor the adult may be asked to be on the ice. Helmets are required for all participants and children must have full hockey gear to use hard pucks. Hockey admission prices apply.
This program is for adults aged 16 and over to hit the ice for some fun, non-contact hockey. Full gear is required and please bring your own stick. Participants must sign in and
make payment at the skate shop prior to stepping on ice.
This program is designed to introduce your child to the fundamental movements of skating on ice and help them improve their skating in a fun and motivating way. Helmet, gloves and skates required, rentals skates available upon request.
Ages 4 – 5
Ages 6 – 17
First-timers learn the basics of balancing on two feet, touching toes, marching, falling down and getting up. The instructor will circulate and assist the group. HELMETS MANDATORY for children. Adults can wear skates or spikes, available at skate shop. No prerequisites.
Ages 2 – 5
Beginner figure skating helps children build confidence and coordination through foundational skills. Skaters will continue the fundamentals of balance, edges, forward/backward stroking, turns, spins and beginner jumps in a recreational figure skating
format to music. This program will take skaters to a level in which they can easily transition over to a Skate Canada Club and be at the Pre Preliminary level. Children must be able to complete Learn to Skate Level 3 skills before advancing. Sign up for one day per week by calling 250.749.6742 ext. 0
This hockey skills session provides a valuable opportunity for players to gain extra ice time while concentrating on the development of key hockey techniques. Through a variety of structured drills, participants will work on improving their skating, puck handling and shooting in a focused and supportive environment.
Ages 5 – 8
Ages 9 – 13
Power Skating Sessions with Addie Clark focus on developing strong skating fundamentals while improving speed, balance, agility, and confidence on the ice. These skill-based sessions emphasize proper technique, including edge control, stride efficiency, starts, stops, and transitions, with drills tailored to the group’s ability level. Ideal for skaters looking to build or refine their skating skills in a supportive and engaging environment.
Ages 9 – 14
Adult Skating Time is a welcoming program for beginners or adults looking to get back on the ice. Open to ages 18+, this session focuses on building confidence, balance, and basic skating skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. Our coach Addie Clark will be on the ice to provide guidance, tips, and encouragement to help participants feel comfortable and confident as they skate.

Celebrate love in the coolest way possible, on the ice! Whether you’re gliding hand in hand with your sweetheart or skating solo with friends, our Valentine’s Night Skate will be a magical evening with music, lights and heart warming moments.
Join us at CLR for a day of free fun on the ice! Take part in our Try-It Curling Day or enjoy a Public Skate! Both are completely free. Skate and curling rentals are included at no charge, so
all you need to bring is yourself and a smile. It’s the perfect chance to try something new or enjoy time on the ice with family and friends!

Registration is available but not required for all public roller skating and ice-skating sessions. Admission and rentals can be paid at the skate shop. Helmets recommended but not supplied. Roller skate and ice skate rentals are available for $3.50 per pair and can be purchased at time of registration online or by calling 250.749.6742 ext. 0.
This is an opportunity for skaters aged 6+ to practice their hockey skills. No experience necessary. Helmets are required for all participants and children must have full hockey gear to use hard pucks. No skate assists available. Pucks will be provided.
