Despite being warmer than the rest of Canada most of the winter, Cowichan takes its indoor ice activities seriously. The region’s arenas host regularly scheduled hockey games and tournaments, and training and evaluation camps take place year round.
Amenities at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena, built in 2011, include a fully accessible 200-foot by 85-foot hockey arena and four-sheet curling rink. There are eight dressing rooms, a sound system and a 30 second clock, seating for 700, and standing room for 300. The facility is licensed with catering capability. 150 parking spaces are onsite.
Kerry Park Recreation Centre in Mill Bay offers a regulation size ice arena, (with floor markings to Canadian Lacrosse Association regulations), a four-sheet curling rink, and meeting spaces. Spectator capacity is 750. The arena is home to BC Hockey’s Junior B Kerry Park Islanders, and is located in the Kerry Park sports complex which also features three ball fields and a multi-purpose field.
