Bald Mountain Sewer System

Bald Mountain Sewer System is located between Youbou and the Town of Lake Cowichan, on the Cowichan Lake in Electoral Area I.  The facility services over 200 residential properties.

System Overview

The treatment plant is a membrane bioreactor (MBR) plant producing Class A high quality effluent. 

The treatment works include two membranes with provisions in place for future additional treatment. Discharge from the UV disinfected effluent goes into the ground by means of two large infiltration basins.

Critical equipment is monitored 24-hours a day for malfunctions (such as pump failures); if such an abnormality occurs an alarm is sent to the on-duty pager to alert CVRD staff for immediate response.

This system currently has capacity for suites only. There is not currently capacity for additional single-family dwelling connections or inclusions. Further development would require developer-funded system upgrades to create additional capacity.
