The land currently existing as Osborne Bay Regional Park is a 44-hectare (109-acre) oceanfront park located on Smith Road in Crofton. The land was previously farm land owned and cared for by the Morton Family and was succeeded by the Gallagher Family in 1972. The original farmhouse was situated on top of the rise in the open field, close to the bench by the current parking area. Restoration efforts to the farmhouse were undertaken by the Gallagher family while they reared livestock and maintained the orchard and gardens. A few fruit trees and ornamental trees still exist and marks the garden area.

 After many years on the farm, the Gallagher Family wished that this well-loved natural space be preserved as a Park. The property was acquired in 1979 by the Cowichan Valley Regional District for regional park purposes through a land-gifting arrangement. The Municipality of North Cowichan had provided maintenance of Osborne Bay Regional Park since that time and in 2021, the CVRD took on full management of Osborne Bay Regional Park under CVRD’s Regional Park Program. Currently, the park provides nature trails, open fields, picnicking, public access to the foreshore, and has maintained its status as an off-leash dog park.

From Duncan: Head east off the Trans-Canada Highway onto Herd Road. Follow Herd Road left onto Osborne Bay Road. Turn right onto Adelaide Street. Follow Adelaide Street, which turns into Smith Road and bends to the right.

From Nanaimo: Turn east off the Trans-Canada Highway onto Chemainus Road then follow the road and turn left onto Crofton Road. Turn left onto Chaplin Road, right onto York Street, left onto Adelaide Street. Follow this road until it turns into Smith Road and bends to the right.
