Curbside Collection Inclement Weather Policy in Effect Until April 1, 2026

2024-10-10 Inclement Weather Policy

Extreme weather events or acts of nature (e.g. snow, ice, flooding, etc.) may impede drivers from providing regularly scheduled curbside collection service. In some cases, an extreme weather event can cause some curbside collection services to be cancelled on your regularly scheduled collection day. The CVRD will notify residents about curbside service disruptions on the CVRD website, Facebook page and the Cowichan Recycles App.

If CVRD curbside truck drivers are unable to provide curbside collection service due to inclement weather, you can:

1) Hold onto your material until the next scheduled collection day.

  • For recyclables, place extra recyclables in clearly marked containers such as laundry hampers, cardboard boxes, or garbage cans (recyclables placed in plastic bags will not be accepted).
  • For garbage, place extra garbage bags in a clearly marked wildlife-resistant container beside your tote.
  • For organics, place extra organics in a clearly marked wildlife-resistant container beside your tote (organics placed in plastic bags will not be accepted).
  • For glass, place extra glass in a sturdy container or laundry hamper (no cardboard boxes).

2) Call the Recycling Hotline to arrange to take your extra material to a CVRD Recycling Centre.

Have questions? Call the Recycling Hotline at 250-746-2540 or email curbside@cvrd.bc.ca.
