[ARCHIVED] Mt Hayes Wildfire Evening Update 2021-08-23

On Monday, BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) continued its efforts to expand the containment area around the Mt. Hayes wildfire.

The status of the wildfire is classified as “Being Held” and there are no changes this evening to the ongoing Evacuation Alerts.

BCWS crews are steadily making progress towards expanding the containment area around the wildfire to upwards of 100 feet, further reducing the risk of it spreading if conditions change suddenly.

Wildfire smoke is likely to linger over the Ladysmith and surrounding area in the coming days.  Self-monitor for symptoms and consider spending more time indoors to reduce your personal risk.

The CVRD continues to appreciate the public’s cooperation in respecting barricades that are in place to restrict access around Mt. Hayes.

These barriers are in place to ensure your safety.
