Sept. 14, 2023:
The Mesachie Lake Water System only is currently on a Boil Water notice.
The second bacteriological sample taken on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, still indicates a non-coliform count. Discussions took place today, Sept. 14, 2023, with the Environmental Health Officer (EHO), and a decision was made that permanent disinfection is required. The chlorination will be the bare minimum requirement of 0.2 mg/l.
Once there is constant chlorine residual throughout the affected water distribution system, the CVRD will resample with the expectation of two consecutive days of lab results with no indicators. It will take a few days for this to take effect and resampling will occur on Monday and Tuesday next week.
The Boil Water order will not be rescinded until the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) determines the water is acceptable for domestic use.

Lab testing results from Monday, Sept. 11, 2023 indicated traces of non-coliform bacteria. The Boil Water order will remain in effect until Island Health declares there are no indicators present.

Residents are reminded to bring all water used for domestic purposes (e.g. drinking, cooking, teeth brushing, etc.) to a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute.

Sept. 11, 2023: Mesachie Lake Water Service area
During routine sampling a higher than normal total coliform (non-fecal) count was found at the dead-end of one waterline and as a precautionary measure, a boil water notice was issued by Island Health and the CVRD.
Approx. 100 homes were affected only in the Mesachie Lake Water Service area and residents were notified immediately. Crews from CVRD Water Services completed a line flushing and resampling on Monday, Sept. 11, and samples have been sent for lab testing.
Two consecutive days are needed for testing and an update will be issued on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. The "Boil Water Notice" will remain in effect until the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) determines the water is acceptable for domestic use.

Residents should bring all water used for domestic purposes (e.g. drinking, cooking, teeth brushing, etc.) to a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute.
This "Boil Water Notice" will remain in effect until the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) determines the water is acceptable for domestic use.
