[ARCHIVED] Updated Curbside Inclement Weather Policy

The Cowichan Valley Regional District has updated the Curbside Inclement Weather Policy in anticipation of the cooler temperatures and snow in next week’s forecast.

While snow and ice pose a health and safety risk for everyone on the road, it is especially dangerous for curbside drivers. This is because each collection vehicle makes hundreds of stops each day, requiring up to five times the stopping distance in these conditions compared to passenger vehicles on dry roads. Please know that our drivers are making every effort to collect your materials as long as it is safe to do so.

If your material was not collected due to inclement weather, you can:

  1. Hold onto your material until the next scheduled collection day. Drivers will accept extra recycles if they are placed in clearly marked containers such as laundry hampers, cardboard boxes or garbage cans (no plastic bags please). If you receive garbage pickup, place extra garbage bags in a clearly marked wildlife-friendly container beside your tote.
  2. Take your material to a CVRD Recycling Centre.

The CVRD will notify residents about any collection interruptions from inclement weather using a CVRD Newsflash alert, a service alert on the Cowichan Recycles app and a social media post.

Have questions? Please call the CVRD Recycling Hotline at 250.746.2540 or 1.800.665.3955 or email curbside@cvrd.bc.ca.
