[ARCHIVED] Wastewater Treatment Plant Repairs

Nearby residents may have experienced increased odours due to the repair work but the air quality should improve later today as work progresses and the tanks are emptied and the odorous sewage is hauled away.

The current repairs are a short-term solution for the aging plant.  Major upgrades will be required to provide long-term wastewater treatment for the community.

CVRD staff are currently investigation options that include replacing the existing plant with the same, or new, technology that will improve the treatment quality and life cycle of the disposal lands.  As this wastewater system is regulated by the Ministry of Environment and the South Sector Liquid Waste Management Plan, the direction we choose can have different impacts financially and to the environment. The CVRD is considering options and costs and expects to have an update in the near future.  Any major changes will require agreement of the community through a consultation and formal consent process.
