Cobble Hill Village Sanitary Sewer System

Cobble Hill Village Sewer Service Area was established in 2018.  The service area was formed through an amalgamation of two service areas, Twin Cedars Sewer System and Cobble Hill Sewer Systems.  The Cobble Hill Sewer Integration Project to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant on Hutchinson Road, convert the treatment plant located at Gallier Road to a pump station and expand the effluent reuse program was completed in 2020.

System Overview

The wastewater plant, on Hutchinson Road, is a membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment plant producing high quality Class A effluent.  The treated effluent is disinfected with chlorine and pumped to the Quarry Nature Park where it is used for flushing the toilets in the washrooms and  for irrigation water in the community park. The effluent reuse complies with all Ministry of Environment requirements.  During the non-irrigation season the treated effluent is sent to ground disposal through Rapid Infiltration Beds (RIBs) located near the wastewater facility or to the reconstructed disposal fields at Gallier Road and also for toilet flushing in the Quarry Nature Park public washrooms.

Critical equipment is monitored 24-hours a day for malfunctions (such as pump failures); if such an abnormality occurs an alarm is sent to the on-duty pager to alert CVRD-staff for immediate response.
